Statement of Faith
Westside United Pentecostal Church was established over 30 years ago in Tullalhoma at 507 Cedar Lane. Affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church International with Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, we are an Apostolic church based on the doctrine of Acts 2:38 and the principles from the Word of God. Developing a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ is the most exciting lifestyle with a promise of eternal life with Him. The scripture teaches that there is one God and his name is Jesus. We wholly endorse this premise and believe He is coming back soon for His bride, the Church.
We passionately support the many departments of UPCI: Harvestime radio broadcast is aired each Sunday morning on WJIG at 9 a.m.; Missionaries around the world receive support from our local assembly; Sunday School is very important and we actively support the Save Our Children program; our youth and adults as well, raise funds annually to support Sheaves for Christ which provides vehicles for missionaries and programs in America.
Our services are exciting times of worship, praise, divine healing, intercessory prayer and souls being saved. There are several outreach ministries at Westside: Ladies Ministries, Youth group, Sunday School, Men’s Ministry . Various Outreach Programs designed to meet your needs.
We believe we are God’s children and he wants the very best for us. He wants our hearts fixed and destination clear. He is doing a work in each of us to make our lives better on earth for His Glory.
History
Westside United Pentecostal Church is located at 507 Cedar Lane in Tullahoma. When Pastor W. Philip Swinford first rented this building in 1974 to hold services, it was a “ wash-a-teria.” The men of the church did extensive remodeling, making a platform and adding restrooms and Sunday School classrooms. Their first service was held April 7, 1974 with an attendance of 26. Several of the original attendees are still members at Westside.
Pastor Swinford was already pastoring a church in Murfreesboro when he began holding services at the Tullahoma location. He traveled back and forth, holding services in Tullahoma on Thursday nights and every other Sunday. In June of 1974 he resigned in Murfreesboro and became full-time pastor at Westside.
The congregation soon began to outgrow this arrangement, at times having as many as 207 people in this small area, and the men of the church embarked upon another remodeling/building project. A new auditorium was built with seating capacity of 225, and a nice foyer was built to join it to the old auditorium, which became the fellowship hall.
Every facet of the Pentecostal faith is 100% Bible-based and Christ-centered, and adheres to strict moral standards. Pentecostals believe the Bible teaches that there is only one true, ever living, eternal God, infinite in power, holy in nature. This one true God manifested Himself in the Old Testament in various ways; in the New Testament as the Son while he walked among men; after the ascension as the Holy Ghost.
Westside UPC has a very active youth program, an awesome music ministry, and participates in many missionary and outreach projects. The congregation has been blessed with growth that is counted not in bodily numbers, but in souls brought to Christ. As a result, they are currently in yet another building project, planning to have a new and larger facility at their new location, sometime in 2006.
Future Plans
Westside is currently in a building program and we are excited to what God has in store for us. We are in the process of purchasing land and once that is completed we already have the plans completed for what our future church building will look like - we know God will continue to bless us with our building program.
